Olden Daisy
Julie and Scott

OldenDaisy is Scott and Julie who live in Garway, Herefordshire.  Scott makes unique and tactile pieces from locally sourced green or reclaimed wood and Julie makes cro-shades - crocheted light shades.

In addition to the stylish chopping boards, platters and spoons, Scott’s specialities are quirky shrink pots and beautiful fan or soul birds.   The shrink pots are made from a hollowed-out log of locally sourced wood, usually birch, cherry or elm. A dry piece of wood is then slotted into the bottom and the pot is left to dry and shrink to fit around the base.  The lids are made from hand shaped oak, sycamore or reclaimed teak and the knobs are made from walnut, oak or cherry.  They’re great for storing sugar cubes, knick knacks and treasures.  In traditional Scandanivian culture, the fan bird symbolises protection, health and happiness for the family and is hung in the home and allowed to move freely in the breeze.  They are often given as new home or new baby gifts. They are made from a single block of locally sourced ash.  The wing shape is cut into the block and then each individual wing is sliced to approx 1mm thick.  The body of the bird is then carved and the wings splayed out into shape.
