ASHLEY ELLIOTT

Studied BA in Furniture Studies and Product Design with Ceramics subsidiary. Graduated 1975. ATC in Art and Design at Brighton. Taught Engineering Drawing, Ceramics, Art and Design Technology in secondary schools in Kent. Have taught entry level Art and Design at Hereford College of Art, City and Guilds Advanced Furniture Studies at Hereford College of Technology and ran A Level Design Technology and Computer Graphics at the Sixth Form College.

Retiring in 2012, I bought a small wood and have spent time volunteering for ancient woodland management, learning picture framing and wood turning.

Wood is a versatile, beautiful and sustainable material. I am keen to integrate other materials where appropriate like leafless pewter. I primarily use timber that is locally grown. Working with an organic material has exciting surprises and some devastating disasters. I am not certain of my influences. The Arts and Crafts Movement and Bauhaus? I love playing with materials and processes to make artifacts that look and function well. The whole process clears the mind and lifts the spirits.
