HELEN ARTHUR
Helen Arthur is a mixed media artist and tutor who specialises in etchings and contemporary expressive paintings of the Welsh borders landscape. Her studio is based in Longtown and she teaches across Herefordshire and South Wales.
Her work is collected internationally and she has exhibited with the RBSA (Birmingham), Royal Cambrian Academy (Conwy), Wales Contemporary (Chelsea), Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (London), Abergavenny Art Chapel, Found Gallery (Brecon). She is represented by The Courtyard (Hereford) and Bluestone Gallery (Hay on Wye).She makes emotionally charged works, rich in colour and texture. Her mixed media painting practice combines gesture with energy to represent the dramatic effects of light and weather on the land.
Her loose, semi-abstract style is directed towards capturing intricate patterns and movement found in the natural world. In her painting she's drawn to remote spaces under moody skies and tangled, semi-wild gardens. She turns to etched printmaking for trees and ancient hedgerows.
Helen also writes non-fiction and copies of her book, The Winding Light, are available for purchase throughout h.Art.
